GALLERY: Candlelight Vigil Honors Fallen Soldiers

New Century, KS -- A prayer vigil was held on Tuesday evening at the control tower in New Century Air Center. This ceremony was held to honor three local heroes killed in action this last weekend.

Spec. 4 Spencer Duncan, W2 Bryan Nichols, and SPC Alex Bennett were crewmembers on a CH-47 helicopter when it was hit by rocket fire. They were members of Bravo Company, 7th Battalion, 158th Aviation Regiment based at New Century Air Center near Gardner, KS.

A moment of silence was held at 2100 (9pm) SHARP simultaneously with a vigil held in Afghanistan.

It attendance where various family members and friends of the fallen heroes as well as current military personnel and veterans of all ages. The ceremony was kicked off with the arrival of the the American Legion Riders which traveled from local American Legion Post 19 Gardner as well as other American Legion Posts in the area.
