The Gardner Edgerton USD 231 Board of Education voted to approve a resolution for a bond election that would fund the construction of a new elementary and middle school, as well as renovations and upgrades to the district's current schools and facilities, at Monday's meeting.
The resolution calls for an election to be held on January 31, 2012, with the bond amount capped at $72,790,000. The projected cost for the construction projects is currently estimated at $72,829,500, which includes the interest accrued during construction and issuance expenses.
In the months leading up to election day, the district will draft an application to the Kansas State Board of Education by September 15, with state approval expected by mid-October, said District Director of Operations Gary Diener.
