Rotarians and Friends of Rotary gathered at Austin's Bar and Grill in Gardner for a fundraiser on Thursday evening. The event focused on the need for ShelterBoxes around the world. Melissa Mundt, Chair of the International Service Committee for the Gardner Rotary said, "I am so happy with the turnout this evening. People are so generous with their resources. Because we will be able to purchase three ShelterBoxes, 30 people will have shelter and supplies following some disaster that will certainly happen."

The ShelterBox program was started by a British Rotary club in 2000. In just 10 years the ShelterBox has grown to become the largest worldwide Rotary Club project ever. Prior to tonight's event, the goal was to raise $2,000 and purchase two ShelterBoxes. Happily, over $3,000 was raised and three ShelterBoxes will be purchased.

ShelterBox is being used in Haiti and Chile following earthquakes in those countries. Once the three new boxes are purchased, the Gardner Rotary Club will be provided tracking numbers and anyone will be able to track when and where the ShelterBoxes will be used.

Last night the Project Shelter Box Fundraiser brought in over $3,400! What a great night for our community and those that will need these boxes somewhere in the world. The generosity will help nearly 30 people for up to six months in a disaster! We will update you with where they are used.
