Billy Raymond Brey, 41, of Gardner, KS, passed away at his home on March 8, 2010. Bill was born March 23, 1968 in Horton, KS, to Edward Allen Brey and Linda Diane (Petree) Brey. He graduated from Holton High School in 1986. Bill married Jennie Mae Reeves on September 12, 1987 in Holton. They moved to Overland Park in 1988 and then to Gardner in 1999. He was a car salesman at Olathe Ford over the last six years. Bill enjoyed tinkering with cars and boats. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved helping his friends. He loved watching his daughters’ activities at school.
Bill is survived by his wife Jennie, of the home; daughters Amber Becerra and husband Nathan of Merriam, KS, and Calley Brey of the home; father Edward Brey and step-mother Susan of Columbus, KS; mother Linda Kathrens of Gardner; half-brother Rodney Brey of Topeka, KS; and half-sister Stephanie Brey of Columbus, KS.

Edith Irene Shreve, 88, of Gardner, KS, passed away March 7, 2010 at Kansas City Hospice House. Edith was born May 14, 1921, in Johnston, NE to John and Elsie Spraggin Tracy. She grew up in Nebraska and moved to Gardner in 1950. Edith married Ralph Shreve in Gardner on May 6, 1956. She was a nurse’s aide for 31 years at the Reece Hospital and then Gardner Medical Center. She loved sewing, quilting and playing cards and was an avid reader. Edith loved her family and her grandchildren and she will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ralph in 1984, son Jon Shreve, daughter Myrna Shreve, and siblings, Roger Owens, Ellen Dillon and Josephine Smith. Edith is survived by children Dennis Shreve of Liberty, Mo, David Shreve, Gayle Velasquez and Becky Pyle, all of Gardner, KS, Ina Warren of Pittsburg, KS, and Lynne Shreve of Overland Park, KS; sisters Jackie Tolliver of Smithton, MO and Lucille McCarter of KC, MO; nine grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Virginia was born July 8, 1916. Her parents were George and Katherine Harrington Wise. A life long area resident, she graduated from Gardner High School in 1938. Virginia married Leo B. Lawrence in San Fernando, CA. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the altar society. Virginia loved sewing and embroidering. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Leo in 1982. Virginia is survived by children, Virginia Ann Smith and husband Jack and Kathleen Tarvin, all of Topeka, KS, Leo Francis Lawrence of Vinland, KS, Dennis Lawrence and Victoria of Overbrook, KS, David Lawrence and Diane of Berryton, Ks and Stephen Lawrence of Garden City, MO; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Leslie Dean Roberts, 57, of Edgerton, Kan., passed away Wednesday, February 24, surrounded by his loving family at his home. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Sunday, February 28, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Doug was born August 26, 1920 to Charles Roscoe and Mary Jane Ogar Nelson in Dearborn, MO. Doug married Constance Orene Noland in 1940. He moved to Eudora in 1951 and worked at the Hercules plant. They moved to Olathe in 1953 where he owned and operated D & C Maintenance for 20 years retiring in 1988. He was a Deacon in the Nazarene Church. Doug loved to go fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Constance on Oct. 4, 1989, daughters Joyce Redinger and Marion Nelson, son Larry Nelson, and sister Nancy Anderson. Doug is survived by son Claude David Nelson of Gardner, KS; brothers Charles E. Nelson of Olathe and Robert Ray Nelson of Rock Vale, CO; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Robert Gifford Denman, 70, of Spring Hill, KS, passed away February 27, 2010 at Olathe Medical Center. Robert was born November 11, 1939. He was one of eleven children born to Lloyd and Minnie Breese Denman on the family farm in Richland County, Wisconsin. He graduated from Weston High School in Cazenovia, WI. He moved to Missouri in 1967 and then to Spring Hill in 1991. Robert married his wife Shelley on March 4, 2000 in Harrison, Arkansas. He owned and operated “Bob’s Construction”, a heavy equipment construction company, for 20 years before retiring in 2004. Robert loved his work. He enjoyed cars, spending time and fishing at his place in the Lake of the Ozarks, and his little dog, “Tippy.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Freda Denman. Robert is survived by his wife Shelley, of the home; daughter Ami Jo Dillenburg and husband Timothy of Richland Co, WI; step sons James Akes and wife Sarah and Matthew Akes and wife Cami, all of Parker, KS; siblings Alice Locke, Lloyd Denman, Jr., Mariel Karstetter, Edna Woolever, Edward Denman, Beatrice Rabine, Dwight “Chuck” Denman, Dennis Denman, and Eldon Denman, all of Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Joseph was a member of UAW Local 249. He worked for Ford Motor Co. at the Lenexa Parts Depot for 30 years. Joseph and his wife Laura Roberts were married in 1979 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner. After retirement in 2001, they moved to Almont, CO, to live with his mother, Virginia. Other surviving family members are children, Laurie (Mark) Lenzen, Gardner and Joseph C. Melvin DeWayne Filkins, 66, of Olathe, KS, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2010. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, February 25, at McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 E. He served his country in the Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned a Purple Heart. On July 24, 1970 he married the love of his life, Kathy Hodge. On August 31, 2009 he retired after 40 years with Johnson County at the New Century Air Center as the Sewer and Water Plant Operator. He was proud of his family heritage who were instrumental in the settling the City of Gardner, KS. Melvin enjoyed playing practical jokes, remodeling his home, bowling, collecting coins and stamps, yearly trips to Las Vegas, and of course, an Elvis fan. He was preceded in death by his father, George Filkins. Marie was born in Invale, NE on January 24, 1919 to Lawrence John and Elda Marie Noble Craig. She married Howard O. Johnston in Osawatomie, Kansas on April 24, 1945. Marie had lived in Gardner since her marriage. She was a homemaker who also did laundry for others. Marie liked to sew, collected stamps and enjoyed growing and arranging flowers. She was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Gardner.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband Howard in 1987 and her brother Glen Craig. She is survived by her siblings, Donald Craig, Lee’s Summit, MO and Vera Mae Day, Osawatomie, KS and many nieces and nephews.

Tom was born May 13, 1947 in Belair, MD to Marvin Lloyd and Vascilla “Sue” Nicolulis Richards. He graduated from Washington High, Kansas City, KS. Tom married Raylene Reynolds on June 26, 1965 in Bethel, KS. He served his country during Vietnam in the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970. Tom and Raylene moved to Gardner in 1972. He worked for the US Department of Agriculture from 1986. He retired in 2005 and then worked part-time at his church. Tom was a very loving and caring husband, daddy, papa, grandpa, son and friend. He was a faithful member of Edgerton UMC and served as a lay speaker. Tom enjoyed making stained glass for his church and had a passion for making stained glass angels.
Tom cherished his family and friends. Among his happiest memories were playing bat and ball with his grandchildren, dancing with Raylene on the beach, being with his church family and playing cards with his brother and sister in heart.
Tom was preceded in death by his father and granddaughter, Ali Richards. He is survived by his wife, Raylene, of the home; children, Thomas “Tommy” R. Richards, Cassville, MO and Cindy L. Richards-Locke, Gardner; mother and step-father, Sue and Walter Kraft; brother, Paul Richards, Richmond, MO; two grandchildren, T. Marshall Richards and Kayla L. Bette was born January 19, 1926 in Irwin, IA to Laurence LaVal and Lillian Max Southall Gibson. She graduated from Walnut High School and attended one year of College in Iowa City. During WWII Bette worked for the FBI in Washington, DC. She married John O. Igoe in Kansas City, MO. Bette retired as an executive secretary for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Co. She was an avid bridge player and follower of her granddaughter’s many activities. She was passionate about KU Basketball and loyally followed the Royals and Chiefs. Bette enjoyed golf and bowling and she was a talented seamstress and quilter. Bette will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Bettie was born Feb. 13, 1931 in St. James, MO. She married James L. Caudle on Aug. 16, 1966 in Kansas City, MO. She worked for JC Penny as a telephone order operator for ten years, retiring in 1995. Bettie had lived in Edgerton for 30 years before moving to Baldwin where she lived for seven years. She was an active member of the Vinland Church of Christ. Bettie was a talented seamstress making wedding and christening gowns; she also enjoyed cake decorating, making floral arrangements and unity candles.
Bettie was preceded in death by her husband and siblings, Arless, Clayton, Grace, Joseph, and John Finn. She is survived by her children, William Bryan Long, Ava, MO, Tonya Sue Shaffer, Olathe, KS, Eugene Caudle, Lebanon, MO, Tammy Lynn Schoonover, Horseheads, NY; siblings, Flora Finn, Owensville, MO, Melvin Finn, Pawnee City, NE; 11 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Mildred was born Sept. 18, 1922 in rural Johnson County near Edgerton, KS to John and Clara Rausch Schulz. She graduated from Gardner HS in 1940 and married Ralph “Ray” Steed on Nov. 29, 1941 at DeSoto, KS. Mildred was a homemaker, helping Ray on the family farm, and was a life-long area resident. She was a former member of the Edgerton Grange, Gardner Needle Club, and an active bowler with Ray. She was an active volunteer for the Gardner Historical Museum, enjoyed card playing, and loved KU basketball.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and husband Ray; brothers, Norman and Chester Schulz. She is survived by her son, Claude Steed and wife Kay, and daughter, Laura McCarthy all of Edgerton; siblings: Russell Schulz and Glenn Schulz of Gardner; four grand children and five great-grandchildren.

Velma L. Klingler, 85, Olathe, Kan., passed away January 22, 2010. Family and friends will be received for a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010, at King of Kings Church, 306 E. Velma was born February 8, 1924, to Loyd and Wanda Eaton, and lived in Kansas City, Mo. She graduated from Westport High School. On June 13, 1942, she married Oliver Klingler and moved to Lenexa, Kan. From there they moved several places including Olathe, Ottawa, Lawrence, Overland Park, and Gardner. She was an avid motorcycle rider and quilter. She is survived by two sons, Butch Klingler and George Klingler, and a daughter, Sharon Williams; a sister, Beverly Woods; seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Arrangements: D.W. George was born October 12, 1945 in Chanute, KS to Margaret and George Milton Lopeman Sr. He was the oldest of four children. George graduated from Humboldt High School. He lived in Chanute most of his life, moved to the Kansas City area in 1991 and to Gardner in May 2009. George had a long career, working for 40 years, in the telephone industry with companies including Southwestern Bell, AT&T, Lucent and finally Avaya until his retirement in 2006. He served in the Army National Guard and was an avid golfer.
George was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his three children: Shawn and Maria Lopeman, Gardner, Stan and Kristin Lopeman, Olathe, and Tara Lopeman, Irving, TX; five grandchildren, his siblings, Rick Lopeman of Altoona, KS, Jim Lopeman, Tucson, AZ and Pam Ambrose of Milwaukee, WI.

Jack was born June 7, 1923 in Gardner, KS to James David and Anna Theresa McAvock O’Connor. He graduated from Gardner High School. Jack met Minnie Leone Parker on a blind date. They enjoyed going dancing, especially when the Naval base played “big band” music. They married on Nov. 8, 1945 at the Catholic Church in Eudora. He started as a pipefitter in 1941 at the Olathe Naval Air Station and retired from the Plumbers & Pipefitters Union 533 in 1985. Jack was a member of the Knights of Columbus (for over 50 years), Gardner Lions Club and, although not a member, took pride in volunteering for the Olathe American Legion Honor Guard. As a young father he was a Little League Baseball coach. One of his proudest accomplishments was being the oldest continuous member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he led the Rosary for many years. Jack very much enjoyed his monthly poker games with old friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leone in Oct. 2009; brothers, Jim, Don and Bill O’Connor; sisters, Aggie Hoffman, Theresa Ernst, Rose Wise, Catherine Tremayne, Margaret Davis, Annie Reynolds, Nell Thorson, Mary Hart, a sister Catherine who died as an infant and granddaughter Mendy Cordell. Jack is survived by children: Patricia Ann Cordell, Robert Michael “Mike” and Joyce O’Connor, John Daniel and Suzanne O’Connor, Dennis Charles O’Connor, and Theresa Marie and Stephen Wallace all of Gardner; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

WEILERT Rosemary Weilert, 83, of Roeland Park, sister, wife, mother, friend. Rosemary passed peacefully to join Fidelis, her husband of 57 years, on Tuesday January 5, 2010, surrounded by her children. Preceded in death by her parents, Julien and Clare Van Goethem, husband, Fidelis, daughter-in-law, Barbara Vetter and sister, Theresa. Rosemary leaves behind seven children, Michael (Genevieve) of Clovis, Calif.; Carl (Lynne) of Kansas City; Marian Weilert Sauvey (David) of Evansville, Ind. Barbara (Richard) Kramer of Golden Valley, Minn.; Laura (friend Jack) of Denver, Colo.; Andrew (Julie) of Fort Collins, Colo.; and Mark (Hsinyi) of Altadena, Calif., as well as 14 grandchildren. Born in 1926 the oldest of eight children, Rosemary was a third-generation Johnson County, Kan., native. She attended Gardner-Edgerton School, graduating as valedictorian at age 16. After two years at Kansas City Business College, she embarked on a career as a secretary. She kept in touch with many of the women she met as a "Y" girl. After her marriage to Fidelis in 1949, she settled in Roeland Park, Kan., and set about raising her seven children, taking pride in each passing milestone. Rosemary was always active in the community serving as an election judge, census worker and scout leader. She was very active at St. Agnes Parish in many capacities, first helping at the school that her children attended, as President of the Altar Society and in many other aspects of parish life. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an excellent cook, making waffles every Saturday morning. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Many thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Luke's South ICU. Visitation from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 5250 Mission Road, Roeland Park, Kan., with the Rosary prayed at 6:30. Pete was born November 23, 1959 in Gary, IN to Charles Donald and Elnora Lee Wilburn Sharp. He was a graduate of Wirt High School, in Gary, IN and SW Michigan College in Dowagiac, MI. He moved to Gardner four years ago. Pete worked sales for Home Depot in Olathe.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Larri Wolfgang. Pete is survived by his sister Tracy Sharp and his cousins Kara Bishop and Kristen Whitney and families, his niece Nicki Gatto (Dave) and his many friends.

Harry was born September 10, 1938 in Galesburg, IL, to Thomas Earl and Alfreda Sandwith Smith. He graduated from Olathe High School in 1956 and then from Pensacola Jr. College. Harry married Sandra Elaine Perdue on March 16, 1957 in Gardner. He served in the US Navy for 20 years. They traveled with the military and moved to Olathe in 1977. He was Director of Family Services for the Marine Corp. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gardner. Harry loved spoiling his grandchildren, reading, gardening, and growing roses.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Harry is survived by his wife Sandra of 52 years; children, Sandy Stoffel and Scott of Lansdale, PA, Tom Smith and Kathy of Olathe, Brian Smith and Michelle of Shawnee, KS, and Bradley Derel Smith and Amy of Overland Park, KS; brother Ronald Joseph Smith of Aurora, CO, his sister Patricia Heath of Olathe; and five grandchildren and one great grandson.

Don was born January 24, 1958 in Kansas City, MO to Don Ramon Nothnagel, Sr. and Sharon Louise Hottenstein Nothnagel. Don married Beverly Ann Nibarger on October 31, 2003 in Olathe, KS. They lived in Kansas City, MO and moved to Gardner four years ago. He was an inside sales rep for Stanion Wholesale Electric in Kansas City, KS for 6 years. Before that he was a sales rep for IBT in Merriam, KS. Don loved fishing and working on cars and computers.
He was preceded in death by his father, a sister Amy and a brother Jeffery. Don is survived by his wife Beverly, of the home; sons Charles Nothnagel and Dorothy of Butler, Mo and Daniel Nibarger and Vicki of Kingston, Jamaica; daughter Tonya Nibarger and boyfriend Mike Bennett of Gardner, KS; five grandchildren, Abagail, Allison, Blake, Issac and Jake; his mother Sharon Nothnagel of KC, MO; brother Steve Nothnagel and Sandy of Harrisonville, MO; three nieces and one nephew.

Anne was born August 7, 1947 in Kansas City, MO to Howard Kent and Ellen Henderson Humphrey. She was a graduate of Gardner High School and Baker University. Anne married John LeRoy Rolin on March 29, 1968 at the United Methodist Church in Edgerton, KS. They lived in Baldwin City and moved to Olathe in 1972. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Anne was very involved with her children’s and grandchildren’s activities while they were growing up. She will be dearly missed. She loved growing flowers and crafting with friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Howard Maxfield Humphrey. Anne is survived by her husband John of the home; daughter Christine Dalton and husband Patrick of Shawnee, KS; son Eric Marcel Rolin of Gardner, KS; brothers Lee Humphrey of Lawrence, KS, Carl Humphrey of Waverly, KS, and Thomas Humphrey of Olathe; and six grandchildren.

Steven was born March 12, 1954 in Waterloo, IA to Raymond E. and Irene M. Steege Booze’. He graduated high school in Syracuse, NE and graduated from Milford Technical College in Milford, NE. Steven served in the US Air Force. He worked with electrical maintenance at the Jo Co Detention Center, Olathe, KS. He enjoyed boating and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Steven is survived by his sisters, Kathy Picraux and husband Melvin of Republic, MO and Rayetta Robichaux and husband Herbert of Sugarland, TX; and three nieces.

Jim Radcliffe, Sr., 78 of Gardner, KS, passed away December 24, 2009. Memorial service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, December 28, at the First Christian (Disciples of Christ) Church, 200 East Loula St, Olathe, KS.
Jim was born March 2, 1931 in Olathe, KS, son of Henry and Cecil (Barker) Radcliffe. The family moved to Holiday, KS for a short time, later returning to Olathe where Jim graduated from John P. St. John High School in 1950. Jim and his wife, Jo Ann married in Olathe and lived in the Gardner area since 1952. Jim was an active member and Deacon of the First Christian Church. He was retired from the Delco Battery Plant.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brother, brother-in-law and sister-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann (Kordes) Radcliffe, three sons and their spouses, James Jr. and Sherry Radcliffe, Michael and Deborah Radcliffe, and John and Michelle Radcliffe; seven grandchildren, one great grandson, siblings and their spouses, Wanda and Bob Hunt, Harold and Betty Radcliffe, Robert and Janet Radcliffe, and sister-in-law Ruby Radcliffe. Jim loved his family and cherished his friends who will all remember and miss him.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Building Fund of the First Christian Church, or to a charity of choice.

Alta was born March 12, 1928 in Yankton, S D to George I. and Josephine M. Merkwan Pettit. She grew up in Montevallo and Olive Branch, MO. Alta married James Elmer Collins on July 5, 1945 in Fort Scott, KS. They briefly lived in San Diego, CA while James served in the Air Force during WWII. Later they returned to Missouri and resided in Nevada until 2005. Alta was a Pharmacy Assistant working in Wilkinson’s Drug Store and then the Nevada State Hospital for 20 years. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher and on the Board of Calvary Christian School, and she also worked with the Youth for Christ Organization. In Gardner she was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She loved quilt work, needlework, crafts and music and enjoyed working in the yard. Alta was a loving friend and always sought to embrace and help others. Alta was devoted to her husband and family. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Irving Pettit. Alta is survived by her husband James of the home; children James Earl Collins and Janis of Nevada, MO, William Wesley Collins and Melinda of Raymore, MO, Marvalee Faye Collins of Olathe, KS, and Peggy Jean Bonine and Bill of Gardner; brothers Kenneth Pettit of Wichita, KS and Arnold Pettit of Nevada; a sister Doris Ryan of Altemont, KS; 17 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

She was a member of Saint Aidan’s Episcopal Church. Jo loved her family, fishing, and traveling. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Carol was born April 18, 1938 in Elgin, Illinois, the second child and only daughter of Reynold and Ann Thomas Smith. She grew up in Barrington, IL, graduating from Barrington High School in 1956. She married Kermit Welch on Dec. 28, 1957, having met on a blind date. Kermit took a teaching position prompting a move to Gardner in 1961. Carol was a stay-at-home mom in the 1960’s; she worked for the Gardner Police Dept. in the early 70’s, and later at Lister Diesels in Olathe. She also greatly enjoyed her Avon business and friendships she developed for 20+ years. Carol was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner, serving as an Elder, Deacon, VBS teacher, moderator of the Presbyterian Women in 2009, among many others. Carol was a woman of faith and she so treasured her relationships above all—with her God, with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, with her husband, with her family and her many friends. She was an avid golfer later in life, and also enjoyed playing bridge. Carol was a huge KU basketball fan and also had a very special place in her heart for her kitties.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Smith. Carol is survived by her husband of nearly 52 years, Kermit Welch of the home; children Julie and Dave Highfill of Edgerton, KS, Mark Welch of Lenexa and Paul “Dean” and Kala Welch of Olathe; grandchildren David Highfill, Jr. and Ryan Highfill, both of Baldwin, KS, Jared Highfill and Lauren Highfill of Edgerton, and Alexandra Welch, Samuel Welch and Abigail Welch, all of Olathe; and two brothers, Reynold Smith of Pierson, FL and Richard Smith of McHenry, IL.

Gladys was born August 17, 1924 in Arkansas to Bradley and Dosha Alice Gabbard Pennington. She grew up in Missouri, married Julius Howard Schultz when she was 20, moved to Chetopa, KS, then to Olathe and to Gardner ten years ago. Gladys was also married to Roger W. Sloan and Donald J. Ohmie. She was employed by Victorian Marble of Overland Park and as a cook for the Olathe School District, retiring in 1987. Gladys was a Christian and member of the Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed reading the Bible and liked her dolls.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Julius, Roger and Donald; four brothers and a sister. She is survived by her children Edward A. Schultz, Olathe, Betty K. Manspeaker, Ottawa, Judy Ann Wilson, Wellsville, Kathy Wellborn, Gardner, Rita Fay Jenkins, Wellsville, Sandy Barrett, Ottawa, Mary Schultz and Martha Schultz, Gardner; many many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.

Peggy was born February 28, 1947 to Claude and Dora Dale Clifton Branch in, Geary, Oklahoma. She married John J. Giebler on February 27, 1965 in Hays, KS. They lived in Hays, Russell, Salina, KS and five years in Hebron, KY. She moved to Gardner to be with her daughter two years ago. Peggy enjoyed sewing, gardening and decorating. She loved spending time with her grandkids. Peggy will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2000, and her father. Deanna loved her kids and her grandchildren and she will be dearly missed.

Robert was born October 16, 1937 in Fort Scott, KS to Herbert Newton and Hazel Lucille Bolden McReynolds. He married Leta Fay Rushing on December 18, 1978 in Miami, OK. They lived in Olathe. He was a school custodian for 32 years at Scarborough Elementary in Olathe. Robert moved to Arkansas a year ago. He loved his grandkids and going fishing and hunting.
He was preceded in death by his wife Leta in 2008, his parents, daughter Ada Louise Carpenter and brothers Bill and Melvin. She married William James Morse in 1984 in Malad, ID. Barbara worked as a cashier at the Gardner Shell station, retiring in 2007. She was a member of the LDS Church in Paola, KS and enjoyed gardening, fishing, baking and spending time with her special companions, dogs—Brat, Josie and Lady.
She was preceded by her parents and sisters, Carolyn and Susan Jans. She is survived by her husband, William, of the home; brother, Leland J. Jans, Lafayette, LA; children: Teresa Jans, St. Joseph, MO, Michael D. Blum (currently working in Afghanistan) and wife Carolynn, Florence, KY and Bruce D. Judy was born March 22, 1947 in Beatrice, NE to Wayne and Lois Hillers Schafer. She graduated from Beatrice High School. Judy married Randolph Carter Hamilton on June 3, 1973 in Beatrice. They lived in Lockport, IL before moving to Spring Hill eleven years ago. She was a cashier and sales clerk for Hobby Lobby in Olathe. Judy also was a driver and aide for special needs children in USD 230, Spring Hill. Judy was an active member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Gardner serving as the President of King of Kings Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. Judy was an avid crafter who loved stamping and photography.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Leonard Wayne Buchmeier and brother Jeffrey Wayne Schafer. Judy is survived by her husband Randy of Spring Hill; daughter Janice Marie Leeper and husband Mike of Spring Hill; brothers Loren Schafer of Beatrice NE; and Neil Schafer of Lubbock, TX; five grandchildren Zeppelin, Bob, Stephanie, Sky Lynn, and Colton. Judy was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Bill was born February 24, 1924 in Bristol, CT, to Frederick and Olga Bielert Haselrick. After graduating high school he joined the US Navy during WWII serving on the PT 556. He was a machinist in the aircraft industry working at Pratt Whitney. Bill moved to Kansas to be near his family in 2007.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Joseph and Edward and two sisters Elsie Chase and Lydia Sullivan and several nieces and nephews including Sue Raabe. Bill is survived by his sister-in-law Doris Haselrick, nephew Bill Haselrick and his wife Brooke and nephew Ed Haselrick, Jr. all of Gardner; niece Lori Haselrick-Cross of Elkhart, Indiana; nephew Rex Chase of Orlando, FL; nephew Frederic “Fritz” Sullivan and nephew Austin Raabe both of Naples, FL; and several great nieces and nephews.

Joe was born on March 7, 1931 in De Soto, KS to Lester Clarence and Vernice Aletha Hall Oshel. He grew up in rural Edgerton and graduated from Edgerton High School. Joe moved to Greentown, Ohio and married Mary Magdalene Huff in Canton, Ohio. Joe served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. They moved back to Edgerton in 1986. Joe was a tow motor operator for Akron Standard Steel in Ohio. He also worked at Central Fiber in Wellsville for five years, retiring in 1996. Joe lived a simple life and he will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary and siblings Lester Edward Oshel and Delores McDaniel. Joe is survived by his daughter Anna Oshel of Edgerton and sons Virgil Oshel of Ottawa, KS, George Oshel of Paola, KS, and Kenneth Oshel of Edgerton; brothers Boyd Oshel of Mound City, KS, Bob Oshel of Princeton, KS and Keith Oshel of Alabama; sisters Laura Lee Frye of Edgerton, Lois Wynes of Osceola, MO and Sharon Jacoby of Ottawa; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Barbara was born September 9, 1917 in Gardner, KS to Clifton Leroy and Eura Louella Myers Horn. She grew up in Gardner, graduating from Gardner High School and then attended Business College. Barbara moved to KC after high school. She was an underwriter for Travelers Insurance for 40 years. Barbara was a member and very active in her church, South-Broadland Presbyterian, KC, MO. She was an elder, a member of the Keystone Class, PW, and Keenagers. Barbara was a wonderful cook.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; son, Stephen Lawrence Brown and siblings, Lorene Horn Higgins, Ronald Leroy Horn and Darrell Miller Horn. She is survived by son, William Clifton Brown, KC, MO; siblings: Carolyn Jane Donovan, Grandview, MO; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

James was born July 12, 1922 in rural Gentry County, Missouri to John Henry and Meta Weiss Houston. He married Lorraine Sargent on July 6, 1943 in Lawrence, KS. They moved to Gardner in 1954 from Olathe. James worked at the Hercules Powder Plant and was a farmer. He was a member of Gardner Baptist Church, and a 3rd degree Master Mason in Blue Lodge #65, Gardner, KS. James worked hard to provide and care for his family.
James was preceded by his parents; two sisters and six brothers; and sons: James Lee Houston, Jr. and John Charles Houston. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of the home; children: Meta Kathern (John) Pitcher, Rochester, MN, Robert Reid (Dee) Houston, Gardner, Jim David (Jina) Houston, Gardner; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Corrine was born in Howe, NE to Viola Vandella Howell Clarke and Matthew Magil Clarke. She graduated from Auburn High School in Auburn, NE where she met her husband William Francis Secrest. They married in Wichita, KS in 1940. While her husband worked for Continental Oil Co., they lived in Corpus Christi, TX, Ponca City, OK and Tulsa, OK. In 1950 they started the Secrest Pipe Coating Co in Tulsa and later Secrest Emergency Services, which re-railed, railroad train wrecks. Corrine and her husband were active in the restoration and showing of 1932 Fords and won many national prizes at V-8 car club meets.
Corrine contributed greatly to all around her, enriching their lives with laughter, love and caring. She positively impacted all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed by her many friends, relatives and acquaintances. Corrine and “Seek” had one son, Ronald Dean Secrest, who was the light of their lives.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, and sisters, Evelyn Clarke Skoglund, and Esther Clarke, brothers William Clarke and Edgar Clarke. Her grandchildren, who she adored, William Cordell Secrest and Jacquelynn Nicole Secrest, survive her. Other survivors include nieces Jane Fisher, Judy Moody, and nephew Leslie Secrest, MD, many great nieces and nephews and friends.

Dick was born Nov. 13, 1943 in Corpus Christi, TX to Thomas Junior and Olive Jane Rinehart Graves. He moved to Gardner with his family in 1959. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1961, attended Iola Jr College and JCCC. Dick served in the US Army and National Guard from June 1962 to June 1968. In high school he became a member of Gardner Presbyterian Church. He worked there and also was an assistant at Bruce Furniture Store and Funeral Home. Dick worked at the Skelly Station in Gardner, was a deputy sheriff / detective for the Johnson County Sheriff’s Dept. for 14 years and later worked as a clerk at King’s Convenience Store in Olathe. Dick was previously married to Barbara Klamm Hopson. Dick married Joanna Samyn on April 10, 1982 in Lenexa, KS. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading and watching western, mystery, and detective movies and working on his cars.
Dick was preceded in death by his mother Olive in March of 2009 and a brother, Harold “Harry” Graves. He is survived by his wife, Joanna, of the home; children: Connie Hurla (Shawn), Louisburg, David Graves (Cindy), Spring Hill, Deanna Sampugnaro (Michael), Omaha, NE, Leeann Graves, Gardner; his father, Thomas, Gardner; siblings: Thomas James Graves, Wichita, KS, and Linda Weeks, Drexel, MO; six grandchildren and 1 great grand-daughter.

A life-long area resident, Nap was born June 27, 1929 in Gardner to Nicholas and Rosa Amiesca Fonseca. He was a 1946 graduate of Gardner High School and served in the U S Army during the Korean conflict. Nap married Juanita Dela Cruz on November 26, 1955 in Osawatomie, KS. He was a production manager and custodian for Cramer Products, Inc. in Gardner for 47 years. Nap was an avid high school and state sports fan. He enjoyed gardening, visiting with friends, neighbors and the occasional stranger, and especially loved spoiling his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and a sister. Nap is survived by his wife Juanita, of the home; daughters Anita and Mary Fonseca, both of Olathe, KS; son David Fonseca and wife Kimberly of Wichita, KS; and grandchildren Michael and Arianna; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Marg was born in Edgerton, KS on July 2, 1922, to Charlie and Anna Reeves. She graduated from Edgerton High School in 1940. Marg married Russell McConnell on December 16, 1941. She was active in the Docey Dandies Square Dance Club, the Domino Club, and the Edgerton Alumni Association. Marg was known by her friends as the “Pie Lady” and an avid KU fan. She was the “Lunch Lady” at the Gardner School Cafeteria for years and later worked at Dot Manufacturing. Monday nights at Stricker’s Auction were a special part of her life.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Russell, son Donald David McConnell, and her sister, Frances Collins Moore. Surviving are her three daughters, Patricia Ann Cloud and husband Paul of Gardner, Sue Ellen Anderson and husband Lynn of Olathe, KS, Peggy Lea Gigax and husband Bill of Hendersonville, TN; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her sister Mary Laverne “Pete” Graham and husband Cotton of New Mexico; and a host of very dear and special friends. Anna worked at Daisy Corp for six years as a Lead on Line Production, retiring in 1989. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Gardner. Anna enjoyed her family and will be dearly missed.

Leone was born March 18, 1923 in Eudora, KS to Walter William and Anna Vera Weatherford Parker. She was a 1941 graduate from Eudora High School. Leone met John “Jack” Robert O’Connor on a blind date. They enjoyed going dancing, especially when the Naval base played “big band” music. The wedding day was November 8, 1945 and Jack and Leone were married at the Catholic Church in Eudora. They started in a rented house in Gardner and have lived in Gardner for 64 years. She did clerical work for nine years at the North Supply Telephone Co. Leone was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Alter Society. She was also a member of Crafty Crew. Leone’s entire world revolved around caring for her family. She had a gift that always made people feel loved and special. We’ll always remember her wonderful sense of wit and humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roscoe and Charles Parker, and granddaughter Mendy Cordell. Leone is survived by her husband Jack, of the home; children Patricia Ann Cordell, Robert Michael “Mike” and Joyce O’Connor, John Daniel and Suzanne O’Connor, Dennis Charles O’Connor, all of Gardner, and Theresa Marie and Stephen Wallace of Austin, TX; sister Margaret Mosser of Eudora, KS; 17 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way. Joyce was born Sept. 12, 1941 to James M and Julia Gore Neff in Choctaw, Oklahoma. She graduated from LaBelle High in LaBelle, MO. Joyce has lived in many states: OK, MO, IL, TN, AND KS with the majority of her life spent in the Kansas City area. She was an administrative assistant for 10 years with Fringe Benefits Design, Overland Park, retiring in 1999. Joyce loved being a mother and grandma. She enjoyed cooking, painting and was a cat lover.

Cindy was born November 13, 1958 in Kansas City, MO to Joseph Ambrose and Beverly Ann Scamahorn Baldwin. She attended Gardner High School. Cindy married Michael Paul Kodger on July 19, 1986 in Gardner. They lived in Gardner 13 years before moving to Edgerton 10 years ago. She worked as a Dietary Aide at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital in Gardner. Cindy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her family, reading, gardening and growing flowers. She will be dearly missed by friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her father, her brother and her husband, Michael on Aug. 12, 2009. Cindy is survived by son, Brian Kodger and wife, Rhonda; daughter, Kelly Leiker and husband Robert; and her mother, Beverly Baldwin, all of Gardner; three sisters; two brothers and four grandchildren: Baylee, Abrianna, Eithan and Gavyn.

Glenice was born November 25, 1941 in Herndon, KS to John Phillip and Helen Marie Walkensdorfer Tully. She grew up in Dodge City; graduating from Dodge City High School and attended Dodge City Community College. She married John H. Shepherd on July 15, 1961 in Dodge City, and they enjoyed a 48 year partnership. John took a teaching position in Collyer, KS and then they moved to Gardner in 1966. Glenice ran an in-home daycare, was Office Manager at SDI in Olathe, was employed by the Gardner Medical Center as a Patient Rep in the mid 80’s, worked at Dazey Products in Gardner and was the bookkeeper at Golden Goose for eight years, retiring 2005. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Domino Club, and a former member and officer of Docey Dandies. She enjoyed Plum Creek Burger Night, clipping coupons, growing flowers, gardening, and was a “Video Poker Queen.” She dearly loved her family and her kitties. Her friends were all very important to her and she will be dearly loved and missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Margaret was born on August 17, 1929 in Wichita to William David and Maggie Louise Bolen Shea. She married Clyde R. Mosby on Feb. 11, 1955 in Miami, OK. Margaret had lived in Bartlesville and moved to this area in 1961. She was employed in assembly parts production at Bendix King, retiring in 1994. Margaret attended Gardner First Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling, playing the piano and horseback riding when she was young.

Betty was born on May 4, 1929 in Kansas City, MO, to Roy Gus and Dorothy Laura Arbogast Tyson. She graduated from Southeast High School in KC, Mo. Betty married Calvin Petty on July 31, 1947 in KC, MO. They lived in Overland Park, KS for over 30 years. She was a co-owner of Petty Products in Olathe, retiring in 1991. They retired to Bentonville, AR for 15 years, and moved to Spring Hill four years ago. Betty loved reading, cooking, flower gardening and her cats. Spending time with family and friends was very important to her. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother Roy and Marie Tyson, mother Dorothy Williams, and step-sister Billie Marie Weigt. Betty is survived by her husband Calvin, of the home; daughters Calayne and Gail Stanton and Diana and Robert Peterson, all of Spring Hill; step-sisters Patricia Stanton of Ohio and Beverly Boswell of Kansas City, MO; step-father Charles E. Helen was born December 29, 1924 in Leavenworth County, KS, to Thomas Aaron and Laura DeBrow Lee. She grew up in Linwood and graduated from De Soto High School. During WWII she worked on B51 planes in Fairfax, KS. Helen married Elmer Fred Kurtz on July 6, 1946 in Olathe, KS. They lived in Gardner, moved to Edgerton in 1951 and then to Wellsville in 1969. She was a machinist at Puritan in Lenexa, King Radio and Sunshine Bakery, retiring in 1992. Helen loved to knit and crochet and was a talented seamstress. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing flowers. She was a great cook and pie maker and made the best homemade rolls. She loved her cats and was a huge fan of Kansas Jayhawks basketball.
She was preceded in death by her husband Elmer in 1972, her parents, her son Michael, and siblings Margurite Herald, Samuel Lee, Kenneth Lee and Doris Kurtz. Helen is survived by daughter Laurel Mae Edstrom and husband Richard of Edgerton, Roxana Maxine McCool and husband Lyle of Bagley, IA, Charles A. Kurtz and wife Alice of Gardner and Candice Marie Ream and husband Duane of Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family was very important to her and she will be dearly missed.

Kelly was born March 28, 1962 to Kenneth Hasting and Linda Lee Fischer Thompson. She grew up in McLouth; graduating from McLouth High School. She married Charles Joseph Toplikar on April 15, 1989 in Olathe.
They lived in Gardner in 1991 and then moved to Hillsdale in 2007. Kelly worked as a lab technician at Kerry Sweet, Inc. in New Century, KS for 16 years. She enjoyed photography, fishing, hunting, gardening, and target shooting. Kelly loved her family and will be dearly missed.

She was employed at Sprint as a Computer Technician. She was working on her Master’s Degree in IT Technology from the University of Phoenix.

Joe was born November 10, 1931 in Neosho to Harland Jackson and Goldie Marie Slaughter Yetter. He graduated from Neosho High School and University of MO, Rolla. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. Joe married Edna Alice McCaffree on July 29, 1961 in Neosho. They moved to Overland Park, KS in 1967 then to Spring Hill in 1969. Joe was a Mechanical Engineer for Black & Veatch in Overland Park for 29 years, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Louisburg Baptist Temple. Joe was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles. He loved his family and going fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Carl Ray Yetter, Patsy Ruth Tucker and Bonnie Jean Smith. John was born February 4, 1936 to James Benson and Mable Catherine Hice Standridge in Parsons, Kansas. He graduated from Parsons High School and attended Labette Community College. He served in the U S Army as an MP and a paratrooper during the Korean Conflict. John married Lois Marie Alexander on October 30, 1957 in Miami, OK. He was a Sgt in the Parsons Police Force, an Assistant Chief of Police in Neodesha; and a Deputy Sheriff in Wilson County. He was a painter and a carpenter, retiring in 1995. They moved to Spring Hill in 2004. John was a member of the Ocheltree Baptist Church, the Optimist Club in Parsons, the Boy Scouts, the Fraternal Order of Police, serving as Chaplain, and the Eagles in Neodesha. He was the organizer of the Ameridan Scouts and the Christianaires Quartet. John W Standridge was a devoted father, grandfather and loving husband.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings C. Louise Hill, Dorothy Pearson, and James B. Standridge, Jr. John is survived by his wife Lois, of the home; sons John W. Standridge II, Parsons, KS and James B. Standridge of Spring Hill; daughters Neva C. Clarkson and Christine M. Pullman both of Olathe; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Kathleen was born July 24, 1925 in Edgerton, KS to Bartholomew A. and Luttie Belle Jackson Murphy. She graduated from Edgerton High School in 1943. Kathleen married Gerald Eugene “Gerry” Braun on April 27, 1946 in Edgerton. They moved around while he was in the Marines and settled in Independence, MO in 1967. In 1986 they moved to Lee’s Summit. She was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and Grandma Kay. She will be dearly missed.

Mike was born on December 18, 1962 in North Olmstead, Ohio to Orville and Rosemary Kodger. He graduated from Saint Edward High School in Lakeland, Ohio. Mike married Cindy Jo Baldwin on July 19, 1986 in Gardner. They lived in Gardner 13 years before moving to Edgerton 10 years ago. Mike was an electrician for Del Monte in Lawrence, KS for the last six months. Prior to that he was an electrician for 22 years at Vertis Advertising in Lenexa and owned and operated Mike’s Electric. Mike was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his family.
He was preceded in death by his father. Wesley will always be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor and love for working on his farm and sharing his garden products. He also loved playing his guitar and singing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ramona in 2000, brothers Hubert and Freddie, sisters Helen Smith, Wilma Griffin, Orothy Perry and Alice Bosley. Wesley is survived by his sisters Eva Waggoner of Eudora and Marie Foster of Shawnee, KS.

Cathy L. Cordell, age 60, passed away Tuesday morning, August 4, 2009, at the Warsaw Health & Rehabilitation Center in Warsaw, Missouri, after a valiant struggle with cancer. She was born in Gardner, Kansas, on June 2, 1949, the daughter of John and Jean Sickles Chesney.
She grew up in Gardner, Kansas, and graduated from Gardner High School in the class of 1967. She then received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Kansas in 1971. She taught in public schools around Gardner for several years. She then owned and operated the Downtowner Café in Gardner, and finally worked as a sales representative for the Dansco Company, near Gardner, Ks.
Cathy is survived by her father, John Chesney, who is a resident of the Homestead of Olathe, in Olathe, Kansas. She is, also, survived by two sisters; Patricia Ledom, of Olathe, Kansas, and Gail Chesney, of San Francisco, California; two aunts; Estelle Pincomb and Dorothy Russell; two nieces and two nephews; fourteen great-nieces and great-nephews; two great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
Grave Side Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday afternoon, August 7, 2009, at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery in Olathe, Kansas. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

As a tennis player he was victorious over the Marines. Merlin married Nina Virginia Lyons on May 11, 1940 in KC, Mo. They lived nineteen years in Arizona, moving to Olathe then Spring Hill. He was a Vice President at Gresham Inc. Steel Fabricators in KC, MO for 30 years. Merlin was a member of the Oddfellows and the Fraternal order of the Eagles in Green Valley, AZ.

During WWII Gladys worked as an Industrial Nurse in California. She was a registered nurse from 1951 – 1975 for Dr. Clark’s practice in Topeka. Gladys was a member of the Lowman United Methodist Church in Topeka and the Nurses Association. She moved to Gardner in 2001 to be near her daughter. Gladys loved to read and enjoyed crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rey in 1990, and brother Theodore Schoepflin. Gladys is survived by her daughter Dianne Lovan and husband Howard of Stilwell, KS; three grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle and Alicia; and ten great grandchildren.

Nina was born Jan. 8, 1911 in Woodward County, OK to Albert William and Susan “Sudie” Jane Howard McNutt. She attended eight grades at West Union country Grade School, four years at Freedom High School and a half year at Normal College at Alva, OK. Clarence Allen Lile & Nina were married Nov. 26, 1930. Four children were born to that marriage. They also helped raised a niece, Vera Jean McNutt Myers. Clarence died Feb. 17, 1984. Nina married Reverend Kenneth Ray Meade Dec. 2, 1985. She has lived with and been cared for by her daughter, Janice (David), since 1994.
Nina loved her Creator and Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved her family, friends and her church. She learned to play the piano and violin, has taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, worked in Clarence’s and her Lile Grocery & Dry Goods Store, her Pink Package Gift Shop (baby clothes & ceramics) in Freedom, OK, and Jerome’s, an exclusive dress shop in Oklahoma City, OK. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She was a wonderful, faithful Christian wife, mother, aunt, relative and friend.
Nina was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Clarence and Kenneth; son, Connie Max Lile; and granddaughter, Shelley Lile. She is survived by children: Charles Ray Lile, Weatherford, OK, Marilyn Beth Meade (J. Robert “Bob”), Camas, WA, Janice Lynn Meade (David), Olathe, KS; nieces, Verajean McNutt Myers, Walsh, CO, Rita Maddux, Mooreland, OK; nephews, Marvin Hepner, Woodward, OK, Travis Hepner, Mooreland, OK; three generations of grandchildren totaling 52, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Connie was born on October 25, 1947 in Springfield, MO to Eugene and Mary (Hendrix) Kimberling. She graduated from Shawnee Mission East in 1965. Connie married Alan Lee Hanson on June 18, 1974 in Kansas City, Kansas. She worked for Honeywell in Olathe on the assembly line for parts replenishment, taking long-term disability in 2008.
Connie was preceded in death by her father. She is survived by her husband Alan; her mother Mary of Overland Park, KS; children, Darlene Annette Hanson, Gardner and Christopher Dwayne Hanson, serving with the US Army in Iraq; brother, Ronald Kimberling, Houston, TX; and grandson, Seth.

JENNINGS Dolores, of Gladstone, MO, would have been 92 years old in August. She died Monday, June 22, 2009. She was born to Eldon Chester Donovan and Ethel Mae Antoine, in Gardner, KS. Dolores graduated from Gardner High School, and attended the Plaza Secretary College. She was President of the Alpha Iota Sorority. Dolores worked at the Jackson County Court House, Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas, and Ireland Drugs in Kansas City, North. She met her husband, Lintz Jennings, on a blind date at Union Station. It was love at first sight for both, they married 3 months later and the union lasted 42 years until his death. During World War II, she worked at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant in support of the war effort. Dolores was baptized at the Central Christian Church, 27th and Wabash, in Kansas City, MO. She joined Barry Christian Church in 1977 where she was a Deacon for 9 years, past president of the CWF, and she loved Evangelism. Barry Christian Church and the congregation were central in her life. Preceding her in death were her husband, Lintz Jennings; brothers, Lewis A. and Eldon Jr.; sister, Luella May Brashears; and a grandson, Allen Michael Jennings. Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn McClain and husband Jack, Gwen Batchelor and husband Keel; son, Richard Jennings and wife Alana. Dolores was blessed to have 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a great-great- grandson. Dolores would request contributions be made to Barry Christian Church, 1500 Barry Road, Kansas City, MO 64155 or to NorthCare Hospice, 2900 Clay Edwards Drive, NKC, MO 64116. Ed was born October 28, 1925 in Olathe, KS to Edward Cornelius and Etta Estella Stanley Dolisi. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1943. He served as a motor machinist’s mate second class in the US Navy, 1943 - 1946. Ed married Frances D. Turner on September 12, 1948 in Gardner. He and his brother Cecil co-owned Dolisi & Sons Construction company with his father Edward until Edward’s retirement when they changed the name to Dolisi Brothers Construction Company. Ed then opened and operated Dolisi Hardware from 1963 - 1991. He was a volunteer fire fighter and served as Chief. He was very involved in the Little League Association. An avid sports fan, Ed loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of a local pinochle club. Family was very important to Ed and he attended their activities to support them. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife Frances in May; his parents; brother Cecil Dolisi and sister Geraldine Hertzler. Ed is survived by daughters Debbie Johnson and Joe of Olathe, KS, and Peggy Keller of Gardner; son Del Dolisi of Gardner; sister Anna Lee Smith of Gardner; eight grandchildren and nine 1/2 great grandchildren.

The daughter of Henry and Olive Mason Keith, Bernice was born August 13, 1910, on a farm near Uniontown. She grew up in Kansas except for five years spent near Spearman, TX. She graduated from Bronson High School and taught one year in a rural school. Bernice married W.E. “Pete” McCoy on July 11, 1930 in Oswego, KS. He died in March 1981. Bernice was a member of the Moran United Methodist Church and the order of the Eastern Star, Moran Chapter. She made beautiful quilts that were shared by family members. She was a devoted grandmother and will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and her generous gifts. She had a loving smile and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Pete, daughter Beverly C. Stevens and siblings Earl, Ben, Kenneth, Fay, Boyce, Elbert and Mary Frances. Survivors include son in law Raymond “Arch” Stevens of Gardner; three granddaughters, Shelley Denman (Bob), Shawn Gotobed (Dan), and Shannon Stevens; five great grandsons; seven great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Earl was born on June 19, 1926 in Independence, MO to Arthur Eugene and Adeline Octavia Hinkle Allen. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1944. Earl married Mary Barbara Schwinn on September 14, 1952 in Leavenworth, KS. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. Earl lived in Johnson County most of his life and has resided in the Gardner area since 1964 where he was recognized as Gardner Citizen of the Year in 1997.
Earl has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gardner for over 44 years where he was an elder and served on many committees; a member of the Gardner Masonic Lodge No. 65, AF & AM for 57 years; member of the Scottish Rite Bodies of Kansas City, KS; a past Associate-Guardian of Job’s Daughters; Bethel No. 53 of Gardner; and member of the Johnson County Farm Bureau for over 55 years where he has been President, Vice-President, Secretary and also a delegate to the Kansas State Convention for several years, he has attended many of the American Farm Bureau National Conventions. Earl was involved in the 4-H community since he was ten years old. He was a member, project leader, community leader and an avid supporter and fan for his children and grandchildren’s 4-H projects. Earl was a member since 1950 of the Johnson County Fair Assoc. where he chaired several committees and held several offices including President. Earl was 2nd District Director for the Kansas Fairs Assoc. for years and was inducted into the Kansas State Fairs Assoc. Hall of Fame in 1998. Earl and Mary Barbara were the recipients of The Ralph Schlagel Memorial For Volunteer Service and the Advancement of Agriculture Thru Work With 4-H and Youth. Earl was a delegate to the Kansas State Board of Agriculture for years. He was a member of the Morning Grange for 58 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW of Gardner and a member of Gardner Lions. Earl was a member of the Honorary Alumni Assoc. of Mid-America Nazarene College. He was appointed to the Johnson County Planning Commission in 1977 where he served for many years; served on the Gardner Township Zoning Board; a past member of Olathe Chamber of Commerce and Gardner Chamber of Commerce; a past member of Kansas City Hotel and Motel Assoc.; a past member of Kansas Lodging Assoc.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Faye; and two brothers, Ghormley and Floyd Allen. He is survived by Mary Barbara Allen his wife of 56 years; six children: Susie Lane (Gerald), Liberal, KS, Mary Davidson (Keith), Carolyn Thomas (Jim), A. Earl Allen, Jr. (Jill), J. Karl Allen, Sr. (Kimberly) and Gary Allen (Lisa) all of Gardner; two sisters Christine Chalender and Lois Park; two brothers Dale Allen and Marvin Allen; sixteen grandchildren: Nathan and Jaclyn Lane; Tony Allen (Jessica); Michael and Michelle Thomas; Logan, Grady and Tate Allen; Jessica Brunker (Charles); John and Courtney Allen; Amanda, Bradley, Lucas, Madeline and Nicholas Allen; two great-granddaughters Addison Allen and Cheyenne Brunker; and many nieces and nephews. He had lived in Overland Park since 1996 and worked as an accountant for Cohen-Esrey Real Estate the last two years. He was a member of The Church of the Resurrection, Leawood, KS. Brendan was an avid sports fan and was a Tae-Kwan-Do Black Belt.
Brendan was preceded in death by his father. Janet was born April 7, 1958 to Richard and Joan Hoskins Fielder in Medicine Lodge, KS. She graduated from Kansas School For The Deaf in 1978. Janet lived in the Edgerton and Gardner area until 1991; moving to Emporia in 1992. She had worked for Hawkeye Plastics in Assembly Production in Gardner. Janet was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Emporia. She had a green thumb, was an artist and enjoyed cross stitch.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, and significant other Jay Myers. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie McDougal, Gardner, grandson, Jacob.

Donald L. Anderson, Sr. was born December 16, 1924 to Gideon and Julia Hoel Anderson in Jewell, KS where he grew up and attended school. Donald served his country during World War II in the United States Army. On March 5, 1959, he married Mary Quinn. Donald lived most of his life in the Spring Hill, Olathe, and Gardner, KS areas, moving to his present home near Beloit in 2002. He was a supervisor for the Parks and Recreation Department for Olathe.
He loved country and polka music, played guitar in the Road Runners band, and could be heard yodeling on his front porch. Donald enjoyed mowing and tinkering with lawn mowers. He loved taking care of his pet horse Rocky.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents, an infant brother, a brother Frank Anderson, and two sisters Ada and Alice. Survivors include his five children Donald L. Anderson, Jr. of Midwest City, Oklahoma, Kathy Cochran of Olathe, Teresa Scott and husband Robert of Beloit, William Anderson of Olathe, John David Anderson of Paola; five grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Mary enjoyed cooking, shopping and going to garage sales. She loved her family and friends, and she will be dearly missed by all.

Jerry was born January 26, 1941 in DeQueens, Arkansas to Asa and Mary Rooney Curry. He attended St. Agnes High School in Kansas City, KS and served in the US Navy for four years. Jerry married Floye “Flo” Larrick on March 17, 1961 in Coronado, CA. They lived in Kansas City, KS and moved to Edgerton 41 years ago. He was a bricklayer for 43 years for the Local 15 in KC, KS. Jerry enjoyed woodworking and did scrollwork. Outdoor activities were a favorite pastime and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, boating and gardening. Family was very important to him and he will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Jerry is survived by his wife Flo of the home; children Jerri Lynn Curry of Waxahachie, TX, Cherri Lynn Barrett of Olathe, KS, Mark Patrick Curry of Waxahachie, TX; three grandchildren Kahli, Meredith and Mallory; and siblings Patricia “Patty” Ayers of Merriam, KS, James M. Margaret loved her grandkids; her family was everything to her. She will be dearly missed.

Betty was born August 24, 1923 in Pittsburg, KS to Henry Wallace and Velda Farrimond Carpenter. She graduated from Pittsburgh High School. Betty married Beverly Edward Schick on August 29, 1941 in Vinland, KS. They lived in the Kansas City area and moved to Edgerton in 1959. Betty was a typesetter and did ad sales for the Gardner News and later went to work as a bookkeeper for the IRS in KC, MO, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, and crocheting. Betty loved her family and they were her life. She will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Beverly in 2000, her brothers Billy and Herb; and her sister Margaret Binegar. Frances married Robert E. “Ed” Dolisi on September 12, 1948 in Gardner. They co-owned Dolisi Hardware Store in Gardner from 1963, retiring in 1991. She was an active member of the Gardner Presbyterian Church, a member of “Crazy 8’s”, and Bunco Babes. She was an avid card player, KU and sports fan. Her family was number one in her life and she loved to bake for them. Frances was also a beautiful seamstress. She will be dearly missed.

Delores May McDaniel, 80, of Overland Park, passed away May 7, 2009. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at the Unity Church of Overland Park, KS, 10300 Antioch. Delores was born April 3, 1929 in De Soto, KS to Lester and Vernice Alicia Hall Oshel. Delores married Harley McDaniel on June 17, 1947 in Olathe, KS. They lived in Iowa where he was a high school teacher and coach. Then they moved back to KC in 1955 and entered into private business. She was an active member of the Unity Church of Overland Park, the KC Garden Club, the Century Club of Children’s Mercy and a volunteer at Liberty Hospital. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be dearly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harley on April 18th, 2009, and a brother Lester Oshel Jr. Delores is survived by her son Larry Ray McDaniel and Paula of Moyock, NC; daughter Pamela Sue Markeson of Raytown, Mo; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; brothers Boyd, Joe, Bob, and Keith Oshel; sisters Laura Lee Fry, Lois Wynes and Sharon Jacoby.

Steven Dale Karr, 53, passed away at his home in Gardner, KS on May 3, 2009. Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Friday, May 8, 2009 at Rosean Cemetery, Emporia, KS with the Reverend Mic McGuire presiding. A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at the Fields of O’Killian’s Creek, 14455 Kill Creek Rd, Gardner, on Saturday, May 9th, from 2 – 6:00 pm with dinner and reflections at 4:00 pm. Steven was born June 28, 1955 in Emporia, KS to Orren and Kathleen Karr. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from K-State in 1978. Steve married Susan Catherine Curry on July 7, 1984. They lived in Colorado and California before moving to Gardner in 1989. For 18 years, Steve was an architect for HOK Sport, now Populous in KC, MO. He recently attended opening day in New York City of his most recent team project, Yankee Stadium. He also was employed by Johnson County Planning. He liked to play guitar and sing and was an avid sports fan and golfer. He designed his own pasture golf course, the Fields of O’Killian’s Creek, where he hosted two golf tournaments annually for friends and family. Steve also enjoyed traveling and camping with his extended family. He will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his father. Steve is survived by his wife Susan of the home; children Sutton Ira Karr of the home and Spenser Curry Karr attending Tulane University in New Orleans, LA; mother Kathleen Karr of Emporia; brothers Jerry and Bob of Emporia, Mickey of Americus, KS, Mario of Wiesbaden, Germany and Dennis of Indianapolis, IN; and sisters Erma Jean Riley of Manhattan, KS and Colleen McKinney of Independence, MO.

Mary Loretta Samyn, 94, of Gardner, Ks, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Meadowbrook Rehab Hospital, Gardner. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 am Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Shawnee, KS. Mary was born March 7, 1915 of Belgian descent to Charles and Louise Cashier Soetaert in KC, KS. She grew up in Olathe – Spring Hill area. Mary married Edward Samyn on January 31, 1935 in KC, KS. They lived in Olathe and she moved to Gardner in 2000. She was a farm wife and homemaker. They were truck gardeners and sold produce at the KC City Market. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and formerly a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. Family gatherings were very important to her. She enjoyed crocheting and bowling.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, son Hubert Charles Samyn, and brother Adolph Soetaert. Mary is survived by her sons Albert C. Samyn and Jane of Williamsburg, KS, and Edward Lee Samyn and Debbie of Mound City, KS; daughter Joanna Lea Graves and Dick of Gardner; siblings Louis Soetaert of Gardner and Martha Petty of Olathe; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

Shirley E. Buzzard, 78, of Gardner and formerly of Spring Hill, passed away May 2, 2009 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, KS. Graveside Funeral Services will be 1:00 pm Thursday, May 7, 2009 at Foster Cemetery, New Hampton, MO. Shirley was born September 14, 1930 in Milan, MO to William Glenn and Marvaline Reece Montgomery. She married Reuben Buzzard, Jr. She was a cook for the elementary and high school in Spring Hill. Shirley also worked at Puritan Manufacturing in Gardner and spent seven years as a caretaker, doing “senior sitting”. Shirley was a Christian woman, and her family and friends were very important to her. She enjoyed shopping and Shirley loved to dance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reuben in 1967, son Michael Buzzard, sister Frieda Montgomery and brother Billy Montgomery. Shirley is survived by her sons Monty Buzzard of Paola, KS, and Marty Buzzard of Spring Hill; daughter Mona Mull of Rantoul, KS; grandchildren Clayton and Felicia; brother Robert Montgomery of Tuscon, AZ; brother-in-law Bill and Pat Buzzard, and family of Richmond, KS; and her special friend Dana Lehman of Gardner.

Harley Clifford McDaniel, 82, of Overland Park, KS, passed away April 18, 2009, at Kansas City, MO Hospice House. Harley was born September 10, 1926 in Gardner, KS to Clifford Jim and Ruby Frazee McDaniel. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Pittsburgh State College and his Master’s in Education at Iowa University. Harley married Delores May Oshel on June 17, 1947 in Olathe, KS. He served in the US Army. In Iowa, Harley was a Math teacher and High School Coach for boys baseball and boys and girls basketball. They moved back to KC in 1955 and Harley owned Inter City Excavating in KC, MO. He was a member of the Unity Church of Overland Park, the Olathe American Legion, the KC Garden Club, the Century Club of Children’s Mercy, and a driver for the “Catch A Ride” program in Olathe. Harley had four things he wanted to accomplish, he wanted to learn to play the guitar, he became a private airplane pilot, owning a plane, he raised cattle on his 485 acre farm and he coached.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Cecil McDaniel, Denora McDaniel, Gertrude Watkins, Delores Jones and Imogene Brooks. Harley is survived by his wife Delores of the home; son Larry Ray and Paula McDaniel of Moyock, NC; daughter Pamela Sue Markeson of Raytown, MO; brothers Loren McDaniel of Paola, KS, J.C. McDaniel of Paola, KS, Harold McDaniel of Homer, LA; sisters Maxine Wright of Olathe, KS, Marilyn Helt of Peculiar, MO, Joyce Silva of CA, and Carolyn Rood of Olathe, KS; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Minnie Selma Fesmire, 89, of Edgerton, KS left this earth to enter her heavenly home on April 8, 2009, at Medicalodge in Eudora, KS. A celebration of her life will be held 10:30 am Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at the Edgerton United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Edgerton Cemetery. Minnie was born in Eudora, KS on February 9, 1920 to Otto and Sarah (Neis) Abel. She was the oldest of seven children. In 1937 Minnie graduated from Eudora High School. She met the love of her life, Martin Fesmire, on a blind date. They were wed on May 17, 1941 and lived most of their 64 years of married life in Edgerton.
Minnie’s unconditional love, generous spirit and compassion for others are some of the ways she showed her love to us. She was an extraordinary homemaker and enjoyed sewing, baking and decorating cakes. She worked in the Edgerton school cafeteria from 1960 – 1968. Her love of children was not only shown to her own children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but to the children she taught in Sunday School. A member of the Edgerton United Methodist Church and the UMW, the church family was very important to her and through the years, she held many offices. She was a great volunteer in her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Martin in 2005; and siblings Annetta Wright, Violet Abel, and George Abel. Minnie is survived by her daughters Sarah McTaggart and Robert of Edgerton, and Mary Violett and Pat of Olathe; son Clifford E Fesmire and Janet of Edgerton; brother Carl Abel of Eudora; sisters Elva Kindred of Eudora and Marion Shutt of Lawrence; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Glenn Eldon Mitchum, 85, passed away March 28, 2009 at Vintage Park Assisted Living, in Gardner, KS. Glenn was born December 5, 1923 to Jay Bryan and Blanche Austin Mitchum in Kansas City, KS. He was a Shawnee Mission High School graduate and earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees from Fort Hays College. Glenn served with the US Army in Northern France during WWII. Glenn married Gwen Morrissey on August 4, 1951 in Chicago, IL. He taught in multiple locations in Kansas and served as Superintendant in Palco, KS from 1965 – 1970. Glenn was then a Principal in Sharon, KS and Williamsburg, KS retiring in 1985. They moved to Gardner in 1996. He loved golf and spending time with his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Gwen; his siblings Mary Ellen Wallaert, James Mitchum and half brother Louis Chase. Glenn is survived by his son Scott Bradley Mitchum and Connie of Ellinwood, KS; daughter Susan Kay Jones and Charles of Gardner, KS; grandchildren Benjamin and Jason Mitchum, Kyle Mitchum and Megan Schulz and husband Kevin, Kevin and Ryan Jones, and step grandchildren Kurt Doll and Aubrey Rapp; and two great grandsons Ethan and Austin Schulz.
